SouthMetroEd is a partnership of colleges and universities sharing resources to enhance educational opportunities in the Chicago southland.
SouthMetroEd initiatives include developing strategies to alleviate the health care worker shortage as well as the recruitment and retention of Hispanic students. For more information about these programs, check out the "Programs & Initiatives" section.
SouthMetroEd colleges and universities offer shared staff and faculty development workshops, shared library services and marketing initiatives.
SMHEC members have entered into a Mutual Aid Agreement to assist each other with resources, equipment and personnel in emergency situations when the resources required exceed the those of the institution in need.
The SMHEC Sustainability task force is building a community of peers to assist members in developing and implementing their campus sustainability plans.
SMHEC has started work on the South Metro College Compact. The Compact will guarantee that beginning students from the six SMHEC community colleges, who meet institutional requirements, can transfer without loss of credit to any of the six SMHEC universities.

On July 19, the SMHEC presidents signed a mutual aid agreement, which is designed to help a member institution maintain operations and business continuity in the aftermath of a crisis. The agreement is believed to be the first of its kind nationally. |
